Tour Plan

(Breakfast included)
Begin your journey with a warm welcome in Tirana, Albania’s vibrant and colorful capital. In the morning, our professional tour leader will collect you from your hotel. Please ensure you arrive in Tirana at least one night before the tour begins and share your hotel details with us for a smooth pick-up.

Start the day like a true local with a traditional Albanian breakfast of Byrek, a delicious pastry filled with cheese, meat, or spinach. Then embark on an immersive exploration of Tirana alongside a local guide, offering insights into the city’s rich history, modern culture, and authentic daily life.

Visit Cam Bazaar, a lively market established by the Albanian Çam community, where you can sample local delicacies and treat yourself to traditional desserts at a charming pastry shop. Wander through Tirana’s vibrant streets and markets, pausing to enjoy Albania’s renowned coffee culture in a cozy café.

Continue to the Bicycle Bazaar, famous for its eclectic array of second-hand treasures, before heading to the New Bazaar (Pazari i Ri), a paradise for food lovers. Here, indulge in a traditional lunch of Qofte (grilled meatballs) with freshly baked bread, or savor Gjizë (Albanian cottage cheese) with bread for a vegetarian option. Complement your meal with a glass of Raki, Albania’s signature spirit.

In the afternoon, uncover the secrets of Albania’s communist past with a visit to Bunk’Art, an extraordinary museum set in a once-top-secret nuclear bunker built for Enver Hoxha and his inner circle. Hidden until 2014, this underground complex has been transformed into a captivating exhibition space chronicling the country’s turbulent history. Overnight: Tirana

(Breakfast included)

After breakfast, we bid farewell to Tirana and set off for North Macedonia, crossing into a land steeped in history and natural splendor.

Our first stop is Struga, a charming town famous for its tranquil atmosphere and the picturesque source of the Drini River, one of the longest rivers in the Western Balkans. Here, take a moment to relax and enjoy a refreshing drink by the river’s crystalline springs.

We then continue to Ohrid, a jewel of the Balkans and one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in Europe. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980, both Lake Ohrid and the city hold immense historical and cultural significance. The lake, once known as Lyhnidas by the Romans, was home to the ancient Illyrian Enkeleys tribe.

Ohrid is often called the “Jerusalem of the Balkans” for its remarkable 365 Orthodox churches, symbolizing one for each day of the year. Our guided tour will take you to some of the city’s most iconic landmarks:

·         The Church of St. John at Kaneo, offering breathtaking views over the turquoise lake.

·         The Church of St. Nicholas, showcasing beautiful frescoes and sacred relics.

·         Halveti Hayati Tekke Mosque, a testament to Ohrid’s Ottoman heritage and multicultural history.

As we wander through Ohrid’s cobbled streets, discover how this enchanting city flourished during the Byzantine Empire and later under Ottoman rule, with traditional houses gracefully perched on hillsides, all overlooking the serene waters of Lake Ohrid.

Admire the city’s architectural treasures, including its medieval fortress, ancient amphitheater, and artisan workshops where you can see traditional woodcarving and Ohrid’s famous pearls. Overnight: Ohrid

(Breakfast included)
This morning, we leave the mystical charm of Ohrid behind and embark on a journey that blends spirituality, natural beauty, and rich cultural heritage.

Our first stop is the Monastery of St. Naum, a serene sanctuary perched at the source of the River Crni Drim, where its crystal-clear waters spill gracefully into Lake Ohrid. Nestled within the lush landscapes of Galičica National Park, the monastery exudes tranquility. Here, amid the sounds of flowing springs and the backdrop of towering mountains, you’ll find the perfect moment for quiet reflection.

Crossing the border back into Albania, we discover the delightful village of Tushemisht, a hidden gem famed for its charming canals, traditional houses, and a warm sense of hospitality. This picturesque village invites you to slow down and soak in its unique character.

Next, we visit the peaceful haven of Drilon National Park, a scenic retreat where willow trees drape gracefully over calm waters, creating an idyllic setting for a leisurely stroll or simply to unwind in nature’s embrace.

Our journey concludes in Berat, often called the “City of a Thousand Windows,” where history whispers from Ottoman-era houses clinging to the hillsides and ancient fortifications crown the city. Settle in for an evening surrounded by centuries of heritage and timeless beauty.

Overnight: Berat

(Breakfast included)
After breakfast, we begin our day in Berat, the enchanting “City of a Thousand Windows” and a proud UNESCO World Heritage Site. As we wander through its labyrinth of narrow, cobblestone streets, marvel at the Ottoman-era houses stacked up the hillside, their windows reflecting centuries of history and giving Berat its poetic nickname.

Dating back to the 6th–5th century BC as an Illyrian settlement, Berat later became the fortified city of Antipatrea in the 3rd century BC. Remarkably, families still live within the ancient castle walls, preserving the city’s living heritage.

Our exploration includes:

·         Berat Castle (Kalaja) – a stunning medieval fortress that houses ancient churches adorned with frescoes, quaint homes, and sweeping views of the surrounding valley.

·         Onufri Museum – dedicated to the celebrated Albanian icon painter Onufri, famous for his vivid use of red hues.

·         Visits to centuries-old mosques and Orthodox churches, each telling a unique story of Berat’s diverse cultural tapestry.

·         A stroll through the Gorica Neighbourhood and across the elegant Gorica Bridge, a symbol of the city’s enduring charm.

In the afternoon, we set off for Gjirokaster, another UNESCO World Heritage gem known as the “Stone City.” Upon arrival, be greeted by its dramatic stone-roofed houses cascading down the hillside and the imposing fortress watching over the valley. Overnight: Gjirokaster

(Breakfast included)
Today is dedicated to exploring Gjirokaster, affectionately known as “The Stone City” and honored as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Perched on the eastern slopes of the Mali i Gjere mountains, this enchanting town captivates visitors with its unique architecture and timeless atmosphere.

Founded around the imposing Gjirokaster Castle in the 4th century AD, the city’s distinctive stone-roofed houses cascade down the hillside like miniature fortresses, earning it a reputation as one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the Balkans.

As we wander through its charming medieval bazaar, you’ll be greeted by cobbled streets lined with artisan workshops. Here, local craftspeople keep ancient traditions alive with intricate woodwork, textiles, and hand-forged metalwork. The air carries whispers of folklore and music, especially since every five years Gjirokaster hosts Albania’s celebrated National Folklore Festival—transforming the city into a vibrant showcase of music, dance, and traditional costume.

We’ll visit one of Gjirokaster’s most authentic Ottoman-era homes, perfectly preserved to reflect the life of a noble family from centuries past. Its original interiors and architectural details offer a rare glimpse into the city’s cultural legacy.

In the afternoon, ascend to Gjirokaster Castle, the crown jewel of the city. From its ramparts, take in sweeping views over the Drino Valley and the rugged mountains beyond. Inside, explore its fascinating museum, which recounts stories of resistance, folklore, and Albania’s complex history. Overnight: Gjirokaster

(Breakfast included)
This morning, we bid farewell to Albania and cross the border into Greece, beginning our journey with a stop in the enchanting city of Ioannina. Nestled beside the tranquil waters of Lake Pamvotida and framed by mountain vistas, Ioannina is a city where Byzantine grandeur and Ottoman elegance intertwine.

As we stroll through the cobbled lanes of the Old Town, admire the centuries-old architecture, ancient city walls, and charming houses that whisper stories of the past. The centerpiece of Ioannina is its historic Castle, one of the oldest Byzantine fortresses in Greece. Within its walls lies a labyrinth of narrow streets, atmospheric mosques, and the Silversmithing Museum, celebrating the city’s artisan heritage. Take time to savor traditional Greek delicacies at a cozy café overlooking the lake, perhaps sampling a slice of the region’s famed baklava or a strong Greek coffee.

In the afternoon, we continue our journey to the awe-inspiring region of Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that feels almost otherworldly. Here, ancient monasteries seem to defy gravity as they perch atop towering sandstone pillars, built by monks in the 14th and 15th centuries seeking solitude and spiritual refuge.

As evening approaches, the setting sun bathes the rock formations in golden light, creating a scene of breathtaking beauty. Capture the magic of Meteora’s sunset before settling into the nearby town of Kalambaka for the night. Overnight: Kalambaka

(Breakfast included)
As our unforgettable Balkan adventure draws to a close, we bid farewell to the stunning landscapes, ancient cities, and cultural treasures that have defined this journey.

After breakfast, we depart Kalambaka, travelling south through the heart of Greece. Along the way, reflect on the memories made—picturesque villages, vibrant bazaars, and awe-inspiring historical sites that now form part of your own story.

By early evening (approximately 18:00–19:00), your tour leader will drop you at your independently booked hotel in Athens, where you can unwind and perhaps continue exploring Greece’s timeless capital.

Alternatively, for those wishing to extend their adventure, we’ll escort you to Igoumenitsa Port, where your ferry to Corfu awaits (ferry tickets included). From there, you can set off independently to discover the sun-kissed beaches and Venetian charm of this idyllic island.

As we part ways, we wish you safe travels and wonderful memories to carry home from this rich and diverse corner of Europe.
