Tour Plan

We will pick you up from your hotel and begin our journey into the heart of Fener, once the thriving Greek Orthodox district of Istanbul. The name “Fener” comes from the Greek word for lantern or lighthouse, symbolizing the guiding light this community has been for centuries.

Our tour will take you through the rich history and cultural landmarks of this UNESCO-protected area:

·         Greek Orthodox Patriarchate – The spiritual center of the Greek Orthodox Church, where centuries of religious tradition continue today.

·        Fener Greek Orthodox College (Red School) – The oldest surviving Greek Orthodox school in Istanbul, famous for its striking red-brick architecture.

·         Church of Panagia Mouchliotissa (St. Mary of the Mongols) – The only Byzantine church in Istanbul that was never converted into a mosque. It holds deep historical significance, particularly as the site of a valiant last stand during the Ottoman conquest. This is why it is known as "Kanlı Kilise" (The Bloody Church).

·         Colorful Streets & Historic Mansions – Walk through the picturesque, vibrant streets of Fener, filled with restored Greek houses and a unique blend of Byzantine, Ottoman, and modern influences.

·         UNESCO-Protected Area – Explore a district that has preserved its architectural and cultural heritage for centuries.

As our tour comes to an end, we hope you leave with unforgettable memories of Fener’s rich Greek Orthodox legacy. Thank you for choosing TravelShop Booking, and we look forward to welcoming you on another journey in the future.
